Toledo Area Eagle Eye – Carey, OH – July 10-18, 2010
Dear Eagle Eye Parents and Participants,
This is the 5th year for the Diocese of Toledo Eagle Eye! Last year’s participation was extraordinary. We warmly welcome you to be a part of this year’s Eagle Eye Summer Institute! I encourage you to join us and embark on an 8 day summer session full of fun, friendship, recreation, prayer, and study. With the priests, Brothers and Sisters of St. John (www.stjean.com), I am looking forward to helping you to make this experience the best it can be!
This year, we want to go deep – metaphysics! We want to approach the study of being especially from an analysis of the problems presented to us by virtual reality. What is real and what is not? How does this really affect me? What’s the big deal? This year’s theme along with study, daily Mass, Offices, and a Holy Hour gives teens who want more, the opportunity to grow closer to Christ. Take this opportunity to know God and discover His plan for you.
Along with this letter, you will find a list of items for you to bring with you to the Institute and forms needed for registration. If you have any questions, or if there is any confusion, please do not hesitate to contact me. Eagle Eye will begin with an overnight hiking and camping trip requiring the use of a tent. When registering, please be sure to indicate if your family has a tent that you are willing to share.
I would like to welcome all participants on Saturday evening, July 10th at Our Lady of Consolation Retreat Center in Carey, Ohio. Please arrive between 6 and 6:30 p.m. No dinner will be served that evening, but we will have a festive snack/dessert later in the evening.
The Eagle Eye experience will end on Sunday, July 18th at the Basilica in Carey with Mass at noon, followed by a potluck lunch. I would like to take this opportunity to invite your family to join us for Mass and the potluck. May we ask you to please bring a dish to share? Beverages, table settings, and condiments will be provided. Last year we had approximately 25 young people involved in Eagle Eye as well as the various volunteers, so there will be many hungry people. Your help in preparing a main dish to pass (ex. Chicken, casserole, etc.) is greatly appreciated. As any veteran of potlucks will tell you, remember to label your dishes! You can bring your dishes to the retreat center cafeteria by 11:30 that morning. If you have any questions or are willing to help in some way for this potluck lunch, please contact Kathy Kimar before July 18th at (330) 904-2279.
I would also like to encourage willing parents to participate to help the kitchen staff with arranging one of the meals during the week. If you are able to do that, please do not hesitate to contact me. Otherwise, I will look forward to meeting you and welcoming everyone personally on July 18th!
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us throughout this endeavor!

hello,
I will be 17, and am interested in attending. I play high school football and the teen institute may be during football camp where we, as seniors, teach the younger kids. When do I need to register by? I will not know the football summer camp dates until May or June.
Many thanks,
Graeham

Graeham,
I am glad we have our website updated so I can answer your question posed quite awhile ago. Thank you for your patience. I am sure you are looking forward to helping at the football camp. I hope it is not scheduled the same time as The Eagle Eye Institute. The deadline for registration is June 25, but I do suggest you see about registering earlier than that date so you are not closed out of a spot. Let me know how things work out for you.
